PEACE CUP RUGBY AT HAMILTON
HOME SIDE RETAINS TROPHY (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Saturday. A record crowd of upwards of 4,000 spectators saw Hamilton retain the Peace Cup here to-day, after a great exhibition of Rugby. Hamilton won, 9 —3, but the score was 3-all till the last quarter. Charleston scored for Hamilton just before halftime. Early in the second half Ensor equalised for Thames. In the last quarter Brown and Bavly scored for Hamilton. None of the tries scored in the game were converted. INTER-PRO. RUGBY IN THE SOUTH Press Association . WELLINGTON, Saturday. A Wellington Rugby team defeated Marlborough by 32 to 20, at Athletic Park, in the presence of 9,000 spectators. The score at half-time was: Wellington, 18; Marlborough, 9. Scorers of tries for Wellington were Barry (2), Blacker, Myers, Lang, Warwick, Grenfell (2), while Myers converted four. Tries for Marlborough were scored by Stretcher, Cameron, Saunders, Mills and Washington. Washington converted one and Phillips kicked a penalty goal. WIN FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY Press Association. TIMARU. Saturday. The South Canterbury Rugby representatives defeated an Otago team by 25 to 23. Otago did most of the attacking and up to a minute of the call of time was leading. Just before the final whistle. South Canterbury was awarded a free-kick, which was successful. CANTERBURY B TEAM Press Association. ASHBURTON, Saturday. The Canterbury Rugby football senior B team defeated Ashburton County, at Ashburton, by 19 to 3.
