BOLLARD MEMORIAL

TROTTER DEFEATS PACER MONEY SPIDER’S SUPREME EFFORT The manner in which Moneyspider downed the pacers in the Bollard Memorial Handicap pleased the backers immensely. He was a long way back with two rounds to go, but gradually reduced the gap. Even with six furlongs to go he was quite 60 yards from the leader, and when his hoppled opponents clapped on the speed going along the back, it looked doubtful if Moneyspider would overhaul them. Not till the bunch wheeled for home did he promise victory. Though still last, he made a supreme effort on the outside and, finishing like a lion, he reached the judge half-a-length in front of Menember, who was a head in front of Marshal Neil, with William the Great only a head behind the placed division. HOON HAY MAKES PLAY At; the start Hoon Hay and Pointalena tangled. Hoon Hay straightened away quickly and with a furlong disposed of went to the front. He looked to be going easy in the lead till two furlongs from home, where he skied the towel. Diamond Child went a good race for a mile and three-quar-ters, where he and Pointalena were both beaten. MARSHAL NEIL’S CHANCES SPOILED Had Marshal Neil been driven a judicious race, he would probably have won. When he was with the field he scouted on the outer all the way. William the Great fought out a pleasing finish and promises to win a race in the near future. Menember was never far away, and he stuck to his task in game style to secure second honours. A GREAT TROTTER Moneyspider is trained by J. Bryce, who drove him. He is an aged gelding by Lorenes Todd from Mantle, and has the happy knack of administering the knock-out to his geared-up associates on occasions. Bryce has the squaregaiter in rare nick, and he promises to lift some more prize money before getting too far back.
