FRANKLIN LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION

INCREASED MEMBERSHIP PUKEKOHE, Saturday. The annual meeting of the Fra.nklin La'vn Tennis Association was held last evening, the president Mr. A. Park Horne, presiding. Delegates were present from the Buckland, Onewhero, Tuakau Domain, West End, Mauku, Patumahoe, Pukekohe, St. James’3 and Pukekoho Hill Clubs. The president reported that the past year had shown an increase in membership, 14 clubs affiliating to the association. A and B grade inter-club competitions were held, and both were won by the Pukekohe Club. The association played two matches against the Hauraki Plains Association. The first, at Ngatea, was won by Hauraki Plains, and. the return match, at Tuakau, by Franklin. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £2O 14s 4d. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. W. J. Taylor; president, Mr, Horne; vice-presidents. Messrs. W. J. A. Moore, 1,. J. Bayly and O. A. Care; secretary and treasurer, Mr. N. Johnson. Messrs. Johnson and lEL Glasgow were deputed to transact any business that did not warrant the calling of a meeting of delegates. It was decided that, for choosing the association’s representative tean, a selector should be appointed for each group in the association, arid that they submit names of likely players to a sole selector. In this connection Mir. M. S. Campbell was appointed sole

selector, Mr. Johnson selecting for No, 1 group, Mr. Bayly for No. 2 group and Mr. B. Keary for No. 3 group. An application for affiliation from the Waiuku Club was granted.. It was decided to hold A and B competitions again this season, entries to close on October 1, and play to start on November 5. The presentation of the trophies won last season was arranged at a social to be held for the purpose at Buckland on October 10. Notice of motion was given that at a meeting to be held in February, the association consider holding singles and doubles championships in conjunction with the Easter tournament to be held by the Pukekohe Club.
