TUNNEY AND DEMPSEY
PREPARING FOR THE FRAY ODDS FAVOUR CHAMPION By Cab re. —Press Association.—Copyright CHICAGO, Saturday. The intense heat in Chicago has interfered seriously with the training of Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney, the world’s champion heavy-weight boxer, for their bout for the title on Thursday next. Dempsey has been taking advantage of evening boxing sessions and has managed to work for a few rounds. Last evening and again this evening be was engaged with six sparring partners for one round each. He knocked out one of them and gave a display of his old-time form. Dempsey has also worked with swift, light men, who are adepts at left-hand jabs. It is understood he will have his final boxing practices tomorrow, after which he will rest except for daily exercises. Tunney, who considers himself ready for the contest, has intimated bis friends that he will attempt to knock out Dempsey in order to correct the impression that his Philadelphia fight did not flatter his abiltt} He has lightened his training w ork. but possibly will engage in one more strenuous boxing session before ending his training. The odds are in favour of Tunney for the coming bout. A. and N.Z.
