Amazing Masquerade
MINISTER AS WOMAN DRAMATICALLY UNMASKED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright Reed. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. The mystery of a six-foot woman who has been wandering in country lanes in the South of England for the past twelve months, dressed in while shoes and stockings and a black skirt, red hat, and veil, often frightening women and children, was dramatically solved late last night. When seized and unmasked at Curry Rivell, Somerset, by the local innkeeper, the masquerader turned out to be the Rev. A. H. Read, a Congregational Minister, who refused to comment on his behaviour till morning. He then summoned large meetings of the townspeople, and explained that he desired to test social morality and the attitude toward women. He did not consider he had done any harm. On the contrary, he found the men of England wonderfully chivalrous. He would raise his hat to the Englishman, apologise to everyone, and hope to be forgiven this spasm of folly. —A. and N.Z.
