LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY'S GOAL

TO POSSESS OWN THEATRE The impossible was suggested by Mr. Kenneth ISrampton. producer for the Auckland Little Theatre Society, at the conclusion of the triple bill in the Town Hall on Saturday evening:. Mr. Brampton explained, after making every allowance for due modesty, that he had a right to “slap himself on the middle of his back!" It was impossible for Mr. Brampton, however, to do himself credit, and the society’s president, Mr. L. P. Leary, came to the rescue.

It was invariably his duty, declared Mr. Leary, to urge members to strive to further effort in the way of increased membership. As the society had more than doubled its numbers, lie thought on this occasion it was worthy of congratulation. Over 1,000 people are now pledged to support Auckland’s repertory movement.

The goal ahead, the president explained, was a theatre for their work.

“If we cannot own this theatre." sa d Mr. Leary, "X sincerely hope that it will at least be entirely suitable for our requirements, and that we will be able to lake a proper pride in it.”

So pleased was the producer with the work of performing members that he declared: “I am of the opinion that this Auckland society has achieved a standard which Is not equalled by any other repertory combination in Australia or New Zealand.”

That was high praise, said Mr. Brampton, but he meant every word of it. Members who are desirous of taking part in the society’s next performance are requested to get in touch with Mr. Brampton without delay. Saturday night’s big audience was another indication of the excellent support the repertory movement is receiving in Auckland. Despite the weather and popular counter-attractions, the concert chamber was packed to witness the delightful Barry playlet, "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals,” and the other offerings on a decidedly interesting triple bill.
