TRANSFER OF LICENCE

MINISTER OBJECTS Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH. To-day. A meeting of the licensing oor.cli aeard the Rev. Peat, a Methodist minister. in support of a petition objectng to the transfer of a hotel licence from the Square to Cuba Street. The objections were raised on the grounds that a new hotel near two churches and near the site of the proposed school was not required, and that thte neighbourhood would be disturbed. Mr. J. L. Stout. S.M.. chairman of the committee, said that Cuba Street was not a residential area, and the licence had to go somewhere. Petitioner's case was not strong enough to prevent the removal of the licence, which the committee agreed to.
