PIGEON FLYING IN BAD WEATHER
PREMIER CLUB A race was flown on Saturday from Te Awamutu, an approximate air-line of S 5 miles. The birds were liberated at 11.30 a.m. and on the homeward journey faced a ,strong north-easterly wind Despite the unsuitable conditions Mr. G. Green’s "Silver Rain” was clocked at 2.47 p.m., a velocity of 765 yards per minute. At 5 p.m. only three members had clocked in. Results: Mr. J. Green’s r c c ‘‘Silver Rain” (765yds per min.) 1 Mr. H. Riggs r c c "Golden Crusader" (669yds) 2 Mr. C. Ryan’s r c c "Rising Sun" (584yds) 3 The first race of the old-bird series flown from Huntly also took place under adverse weather conditions Mr. Ryan’s hen, "Rose Marie,” was victorious by a substantial margin. Only three members clocked in on the day. Results: Mr. C. Ryan’s b c h "Rose Marie" (403yds per min.) 1 Mr. W. Knight’s b c p m "Black Princess” (27Syds) 2 Mr. H. Rigg’s blk c h "Golden .Princess” (224yds) 3 NORTH SHORE CLUB The North Shore Club flew a race from Taumarunui on Saturday (airline, 144 miles). The birds were liberated at 10 a.m. and encountered unfavourable weather conditions en route. The winner, Mr. H. E. Crowhurst’s pure white cock, "White Voyager.” landed at its loft at Stanley Bay. after a flight of four hours 22min. Results: Mr. H. E. Crowhurst’s vv c "White Voyager” (1,220yds per min.) 1 Mr. P. Quelch’s r c "Red Light” (I,2lßyds) 2 Mr. E. Andrew’s m c "Ambassador .11.” (1,212yd5) 3 Mr. S. Gorman’s b c "Sandy” (1.200 yds) 4 Next week the club will contest a race from Palmerston North for a special trophy, presented by Mr. E. S. Andrews.
