“I LIKE LONDON”
“YOU CANNOT IMPROVE IT” AMERICAN’S ADMIRATION When the Anglo-Catholic Congress opened at the Albert Hall, London, recently, one of the vice-chairmen was Mr Haley Fiske, President of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of America, and the lay leader of the Catholic Party in America. Mr. Fiske, who is a regular visitor to London, of which he is very fond, said of London to a newspaper reporter: — “I have come here almost every year for 24 years—it is the only place 1 can get a real holiday. I love it better than any town on this earth ; it is perfect. Twentyfour years ago I thought it was perfect, and with its changes, I still think it is perfect. I like to go round pointing out all the nice things to my English friends. 1 like the people, the customs, the hotels, and everything about London. You cannot improve on it. Regent Street. I do not like so much as the old one. ESe thankful that your buildings are not so tall as in America. Your traffic arrangements are better than in New York. We have straight streets and to cross the road we have to wait for the lights to signal. Here you have your great police, for lighting would be no good with your curved streets, which 1 like, and which are one of the charms of London.
