HAURAKI DRAINAGE
UNITED BOARD MEETING The Hauraki United Drainage Board met at Tuiua on Friday last, Mr. S. S. Murray presiding. Advice was received by the board’s solicitor, Mr. E. L. Walton, that failing judgment on an originating summons being in the board’s favour there should be no difficulty in getting a clause inserted in the Local Legislation Bill to enable the United Board to operate on the loan authorities of the now defunct Hauraki and Horahia Drainage Boards. It was reported that the contra.ct for the erection of a floodgate on the Thames Valley outlet had been completed. A request for the extension of the Orongo boundary drain was deferred until the financial position improved. The bank overdraft was reported to be £2,043 3s 6d. The Public Works Department forwarded a plan showing the catch-water drains and outlets proposed when the stopbanking of the Waihou River under the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers improvement scheme was completed. Six of the existing outlets would be closed and others made. The board decided to obtain full information on the subject and appointed a committee to wait on the resident engineer.
