BURGLARS ACTIVE

THREE PREMISES ENTERED TWO MADE IN DAYLIGHT THEFT DURING LUNCH HOUR CEVERAL small burglairies have occurred in Auckland recently. Two of them appear to have been done in daylight.

Last evening thieves broke into the chemist shop of Charles E. Moir, 702 Dominion Road, and stole several small articles, including perfume, powder puffs and soap. The break was made before midnight. A daring break was made at the Presbyterian Orphanage, Mount Smart Road, Onehungra, yesterday. During the lunch hour some of the rooms were entered and ransacked while the occupants were having their meal. Small articles were taken. The thief must have worked quietly, as no one was seen to enter or leave the building.

On Thursday another daylight break was made in a flat at 63 St. Stephen’s Avenue, Parnell.

The occupier, Mrs. C. Forgie, heard a noise in one of the bedrooms. She investigated and saw a man dash out of the house and make away across a vacant section. The sum of 10s was afterwards found to be missing.

DEPRESSED MAN DRINKS LYSOL

GREY LYNN SUICIDE TA EPRESSED because he was unable to find work, Burlton Bell Bevege, aged 58, of 44 Pollen Street, Grey Lynn, committed suicide by drinking lysol yesterday. An inquest was held to-day by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M. The dead man’s wife said she found her husband doubled up in the back yard at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. An empty bottle of lysol was beside him. He had not been in regular employment most of the year and was depressed. Dr. J. Mark said that death was due to corrosive poisoning. A verdict of suicide was returned.
