Sa l vat ion A rmy Hires a Liner The Salvation Army has chartered the White Star liner Vedic to sail to Australia with a company of prospective settlers on Saturday. October 15. Already the accommodation is well booked up, but there is still room lor a number of young women prepared to go out as domestic servants. The chartering of the ship is part of the army's plan for extending its migration and settlement, scheme in Australia. Young women willing :o undertake household duties are in great demand in Australia, and the army guarantees situations at good wages.
Free passages are given to approved girls with experience of domestic work. Those without experience are granted passages at a cost of £l6 10s, the whole or part of which is repayable by monthly instalments out of wages. ‘This money will be returned to the young women at the end of 12 months provided they have completed a year's domestic service satisfactorily. The Vedic will be specially equipped for the Salvation Army company. There will be an orchestra, organised community singing and other forms of entertainment.
