PAUCITY OF STAKE-MONEY

rpHE “Sydney Sportsman” comments on the paucity of stake-money given by the Hew South Wales Trotting Club. It recently credited the Sydney officials v/ith opening their Hearts to the extent of giving a £3OO p-ize. But it was divided into two divisions. It is hoped that the club will go farther. To start <1 horse in the Sydney Thousand it costs £22, and owners rush it with open mouths. The Epping Club would probably get 30 Torses for a £I,OOO race, which, at £22 each, would mean that the club would have to find only £340 for the stake. But the New South Wales Trottin j Club does not indulge in such risks. It makes certain of a profit every time. Hence the fall-ing-off in popularity of trotting in Sydney.
