TWO DAYS FOR TAUMARUNUI

PROGRAMME FOR ANNUAL MEETING ON DEC. 10 AND 12

(Special to THE SUN.) TAUMARUNUI, To-day. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr. W. H. Wackrow, the annual meeting of the Taumarunui Racing Club was presided over by Mr. R. Craig. There was an excellent attendance of members. and several apologies for absence were received. Included in the annual report was the information that the club had been granted permission to hold a two-day meeting this year, and the races would be held on December 10 and 12. On the motion of the chairman and Mr. T. G. Lawler, the balance sheet was adopted as printed. A letter was received from the New Zealand Sports Protection League with regard to supporting the Gaming Amendment Bill, which will be before Parliament shortly. On the motion of Messrs. G. E. Manson and A. J. Goodsir, it was resolved that Mr. R. \V. Smith, M.P., be written to asking him to give the Bill his wholehearted support when it came before | Parliament. SUPPORT FOR GAMING BILL | Mr. T. M. Peters and Mr. W. Signal moved that the secretary write to all sports bodies in the district, asking them to support the measure. This was agreed to. Owing to the two-day meeting this year it has been found necessary to provide two cups, and Mr. G. Manson announced that he had approached Mr. A. Adsett, and that gentleman had very generously consented to donate a 20-guinea cup. Mr. Manson said he expected to secure the second trophy from another donor. Mr. Adsett stated chat he would shortly be spending about 12 months in the Old Country, but he hoped to keep an interest in the club when he returned. Mr. Adsett received a hearty vote of thanks, a similar compliment being paid to Mrs. H. Gage, of Kaitieke, who last year presented a gold-mounted whip to the rider of the winner in the hurdle race. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P.; president, Mr. W. H. Wackrow; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. Carlson, A. AcTsett, R. Craig, C. J. Ryan and G. S. Steadman; Management Committee, Messrs. W. H. Wackrow, A. Adsett, R. Craig, G. S. Steadman, G. E. Manson, J. A. Gordon

and T. M. Peters; stewards, Messrs. A. Adsett, G. E. Manson, T. M. Peters, YV. H. Signal, G. H. Burtenshaw, J. YY YVhtte, W. Forbes, J. A. Goodsir, YV. J. Curtis and T. G. I.awler; judge, Mr. R. B. Lusk; hanclicapper. Mr. F. McManemin; starter, Mr. G. O'Connor; clerk of scales, Mr. T. M. Peters; clerk of course, Mr. R. Meredith; timekeeper, Mr. C. Simons: auditor, Mr. YV. Me Watters; treasurer. Mr. G. E. Manson; secretary, Mr. S. Sarah. The Management Committee will later appoint the Judicial Committee. , It Yvas resolved that members fees be one guinea, as previously. The Taumarunui ■ stationmaster is to be asiked to make the best possible train arrangements to bring people in to the races on both days. The stewards were instructed to arrange for the catering. The Taumarunui Boys' Silver Band Is to be engaged for the two days at a tixed price. A new number board at a cost of £3O, to be paid for out of the totalisator rebate, is to be erected. New members elected were:—Messrs. A. Dette, E. Managh, Mclndoe and F. Eckerstein. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to Mrs. Bollard and family. RACE PROGRAMME

The following programme for the two-dav meeting has been approved by the Auckland District Committee: First Day: Trial Plate, £75; Taumarunui Cup Handicap, £2OO, and 20guinea cup: Matapuna Hack, £ 80, Manunui Hack, £80; Matiere Hack, £80; Rangaroa P’lying, £10o; Owhango Hack, £BS Second day; Maiden Handicap, £7O; Otunui Hack, £75- President's Handicap, £150; Raurimu Hack, £BS; Hack Cup, £IOO, and 15-guinea Cup; Piriaka Hack, £75; Farewell Hack, £75. The chairman stated that the t\voday meeting' necessitated finding extra money, but ".his had been arranged for. Votes of thanks to the chairman and stewards concluded the meeting.
