PERSONAL. —Mr. M. J. Barr has joined i the Wairuna as fourth engineer, relievingMr. J. Longley for holidays. Mr. L. W. Williams, second engineer of the Wingatui, has gone on holiday leave, his place being taken by Mr. J. C. Deer. Mr. L. C. Calnon is now third engineer of the Wingatui. Mr. J. Kettle is now chief engineer of the Wingatui, relieving Mr. Burt, who has retired from the company. TOFU A AT SUVA. —Cable advice received by the Union Company states that the island passenger steamer Tofua arrived at Suva at 12.30 p.m. yesterday from Auckland, and leaves this afternoon for Tonga and Samoa. MAHENO FUR SYDNEY.—The local office of the Union Company advises that the passenger steamer Maheno was to leave Wellington at noon to-day for Sydney, where she is due next Tuesday morning. HINEMOA SAILS. The Government steamer Hinemoa sailed from Auckland last night for Norfolk Island and returns here to-day week. She leaves Auckland on October 4 for Niue Island. RUAHINE SAILS 7 A.M. TO-MOR-ROW. —At seven o’clock to-morrow morning the New Zealand Shipping Company is dispatching Its liner Ruahine from Auckland for Southampton and London via Pitcairn Island and Panama. THE SOUTHERN CROSS.—The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross is taking on stores and supplies at Queen’s Wharf for her coming cruise to the islands. The vessel leaves Auckland next Tuesday for the mission stations in the South-west Pacific. MARGARET W. FOR SYDNEY.—The auxiliary four-masted schooner, Margaret W. (Captain A. F. Watchlin) left Auckland at 7 o’clock this morning for Opua to -load a cargo of timber for Sydney. The Margaret W. arrived at Auckland last Friday from Port Stephens. ULIMAROA FOR WELLINGTON.— The Huddart, Parker and Company advises that the passenger steamer Ulimaroa leaves Sydney at noon to-day for Wellington, where she is due next Tuesday morning. The Ulimaroa is the only passenger vessel arriving in New Zealand next week from Sydney. WESTMORELAND TO LOAD. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Westmoreland leaves. Dunedin to-morrow for loading at Timaru, New Plymouth, Wanganui roadstead, Wellington and Auckland. She is due here on October 2, and is scheduled to sail finally from this port on October 6 for London via Panama. PORT CAROLINE SAILS MONDAY.— Now loading at Auckland under the agency of the Farmers' Co-op. Auctioneering Company, the C. and D. Line's steamer Port Caroline is to leave here at 10 p.m.. on Monday for Wellington to complete. The vessel is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington on September 24 for London, via Cape Horn. PA KEH A TO LOAD. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Pakeha leaves Wellington at daybreak on Sunday for Napier to complete her discharge of London cargo and to commence loading for her return voyage. She also loads at Wanganui, Lyttelton, Timaru, Port Chalmers, Bluff and Wellington, and sails finally from the lastmentioned port on October 28 for London via Monte Video and Teneriffe. H.M.S. DIOMEDE UNDOCKS.—The cruiser Diomede, which has been in dock for six weeks overhauling and refitting, undocked this morning. She is to leave on a cruise in Southern waters on September 30, visiting Dunedin, Lyttelton, Akaroa, and Wellington. She leaves Wellington on November 23 on the return trip to Auckland. PASSENGERS BY THE NALDERA.— The following passengers for New Zealand travelled by the P. and O. liner Naldera, which arrived at Sydney on Thursday last from London: —Miss Newman, Miss Frank, Mr. Hornibrook, Mr. and Mrs. Breeze, Mr. Kibby, Mr. Jackson, Mr, Maund, Mr. Collette, Mr. Smith, Mr. MePortland. MAHENO’S PASSENGERS. The Maheno, which arrived at Wellington on Wednesday from Sydney, brought the following passengers:—Saloon: Misses MeCulian Cole, Mills; Reilly, Surridge, Neate, Raikes, Jamieson, and Croft, Mesdames Biggs. Neill, Bardesley, Cole, Parker, Turner, Tait-.Jamieson, Sheridan, Prichard, Archibald, Surridge, Thompson. Jamieson, Raikes, Brash, Pershouse, Davis and Tipler, Messrs. Biggs, Gold. McKinnno, Forbes, Cole, Forrest, Smart, Watt, Thomas, Robbins, Captain MeLachlan, Brash, Pershouse, Neill, Davis, Selby, Rev. Tipler, Butler, Gower, Croft, Master Tait-Jamieson. There were 66 steerage, including 15 Chinese. DEVONPORT WHARF CHANNEL.— The Auckland Harbour Board notifies that a special channel only will be available for vessels using the Devonport cargo wharf, which lies within the new protected anchorage for yachts and launches, until the old wharf is removed. The channel is 100 ft wide and extends from the outer end of the Devonport cargo wharf in line with Bean Rock light on a bearing of i)7 degrees for a distance of 1,000 ft. It is marked on the northern side by two red barrel buoys and on the southern side by two black barrel buoys. WAIPAHI IN PORT.—The Union Company’s Island fruit steamer Waipahi (Captain G. D. Fraser) arrived in the stream at Auckland at 5 p.m. yesterday from the Cook Islands, and later berthed at the King’s Winarf to land her cargo and mails. Except for the last two days , when the vessel ran into a westerly blow with high seas, the Waipahi experienced fair weather for the whole voyage. The Waipahi is to leave Auckland at 10 p.m. to-day for Wellington, where she completes her discharge and loads. She is due back here on September 22, and is scheduled to sail the same day for Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu, Mauke and Mangaia. MARAMA FOR SYDNEY. —Besides a quantity of mail and cargo, the Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Marama, Captain A. H. The Ra.rawa, which left yesterday afternoon for New Plymouth, returns again at 7.30 a.m. to-morrow. The Arapawa is expected to arrive at J Onehunga early to-morrow morning from Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato. She sails again the same night for Wanganui. The Hauturu, which left Auckland last night for Hokianga, arrives at Onehunga at 6 a.m. (#» Sunday. Messrs. Russell and Somers advise that the Anchor steamer Orepuki will load at Onehunga on Monday next for Nelson and West Coast ports.
