WAITEMATA COUNTY
BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION MEETING OF COUNCIL The Waitemata County Council yesterday accepted the tender of Mr. W. Knight, of £1,193 15s, for the reconstruction of Bond’s Bridge connecting the Henderson Valley Road with Swanson, in the Waipareira Riding. The structure will replace the wooden bridge washed away last December, and will have reinforced concrete piles, steel girders and hardwood decking. The condition of Orewa Bridge on the Silverdale-Waiwera Road aroused considerable discussion. The engineer reported that advice had been received that a contribution of £3OO had been made by the Main Highways Board on a £1 10s for £1 basis. SevdTal members agreed that the whole bridge should be rebuilt as its present condition was very dangerous. The engineer was authorised to have the proposals approved to carry out the work. The engineer stated that the reconstruction of Knox Bridge was progressing, and it was decided to place a concrete decking on the bridge. Permission to create a sanitation dump in the county area v was asked in a letter from the Henderson Town Board. It was pointed out that a suitable area existed in the board’s district, and the engineer was instructed to report.
The Local Bodies’ Loans’ Board wrote stating that the council’s proposed loan of £4.000 for metalling the clay portion of the Silverdale-Redvale Road would receive consideration.
