MUSICAL COMEDY
PERFORMANCE AT WHITFORD The Hcnviek-Pakuranga Musical Society paid a visit to Whitford last night, and staged the musical comedy, “Barbarossa.” In all some forty members make up the company, and this is their first effort at musical comedy. For the past three years the society has confined its efforts to the production of glees, but this year’s effort, though considered by some to foe a bit ambitious, proved a wise step. The role of stage manager was in the capable hands of Mr. V. L. Bagnall, and Mr. A. J. Judkins conducted the orchestra and choruses. The following members filled the leading rolAs: “Barbarossa,” Mr. R. F. Newton; “Decatur,” Mr. V. L. Bagnall; “Ferdinand,” Mr. Phil Massey; “Jim Crow,” Mr. G. A. Newton; “Tingad,” Mr. Gordon Roberts; “Mulai Ahmed,” Mr. R. P. Rishworth; “Althea,” Miss Peggy Ledey; “Isabella,” Miss Syla Donnell; “Zuleika,” Miss Anita Roberts; Spanish dancer, Mrs. F E. Smith.
