Five Remain in Raglan Election
MR. PIGGOTT WITHDRAWS LABOUR'S CAMPAIGN (Prom Our Otcn Correspondent J HUNTLY, Wednesday. Mr. E. Piggott, of Buckland. slates that he will not he a candidate at the forthcoming Raglan by-election and that he will devote his energy and influence to supporting the Labour candidate, Mr. Lee Martin. Mr. Piggott will preside at Mr W. J. Jordan’s meeting at Buckland tomorrow evening. Mr. H. E. Holland. M.P.. will visit the Raglan electorate about the end of next week and will speak at Xgaruawahia on September 20, Huntlv on September 22, and probably at Tuakau and another town prior to the election. There are now five candidates for political honours in the Raglan electorate. They are:— Mr. Arthur Henry Waring (Reform >, Mr. W. Lee Martin (Labour). Mr. T. Parker (Liberal), Mr. W. .T. Taylor (Independent Reform), and Mr. C. A. Manner (Country Party). REFORM CAMPAIGN MR. WARING AT RAGLAN (From Our Own Correspondent .» RAGLAN, Wednesday. Mr. A. H. Waring, official Reform candidate for the Raglan seat, addressed electors here this e vening. His speech was on * lines similar to his opening address at Taupiri. At the close of the speech Mr. C\ W. Ralfe proposed a vote of thanks and confidence in Mr. Waring as member for Raglan. An amendment that “this meeting, while thanking Mr. Waring for his address, wishes to place on record that it has no confidence in the present Government,” was carried, but only a few of those present voted. MR. MARTIN AT OTAUA SUPPORT OF FARMERS (From Our Otcn Correspondent. HUNTLY, Wednesday. At Mr. Lee Martin’s meeting at Otaua on Tuesday evening before an audience of practically all farmers, a vote of no confidence in the presen* Government was carried. A second motion of thanks to the speaker and confidence in the Labour Party was carried unanimously. Mr. Martin dealt with taxation, the State Advances Office, bank overdraft rates, mortgages, taxation and the position of the working farmer. Mr. Martin addressed two meetings this evening. The first, at Pukekohe East Hall, was attended by about 15 persons. The second, at Pukekohe Hill, was attended by about 20 persons, and was addressed by Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. until the arrival of the candidate. At each meeting Mr. Martin was accorded a good hearing and votes of thanks were passed.
