AUCKLAND BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP

SECOND SEMI-FINAL WIN FOR WHITE A big gathering, including many ladies, witnessed M. D. White, holder of th€s Billiards, Limited, Shield, and R. Fredatovich play in the second semifinal of the Auckland amateur tournament last evening. White, who played his usual consistent game, proved the victor. Although he led throughout, he did not take any undue risks in leaving favourable positions for his opponent, who played a good uphill game. At his second visit White made a 32 break, mostly by the red loser method. He followed a little later with runs of 23 and 27, gaining the century mark with a'good lead. His opponent, who had at this stage made no breaks of note, was not playing his usual game. The balls were left safe on a number of occasions. White was in again a few cues later, and he added breaks of 30 and 22. He now had a good lead, the scores at the twentieth visit being 176 to 91 in his favour. Fredatovich made a nice run of 31 before failing. White by.this time was thoroughly warmed up to his game, and he made a splendid break of 98, being unfortunate in not reaching the century. This is the biggest break of the championship so far, but White was rather lucky when he had scored SO odd. The break gave him a big lead, the scores being: White, 314; Fredatovich, 187. The latter’s next effort was a break of 35, White replying with a 27 and „ a 22. Fredatovich was striving hard to decrease his opponent’s lead, and in consecutive cues he added useful breaks of 35 and 41 to his score. However, White immediately ran up a 44 break before failing over an easy winning hazard in endeavouring to get position. Fredatovich made a 23 break, but this proved to be his last, as White ran to points soons afterwards The final scores were: M. D. White, 500; breaks of 32, 23, 27, 30, 22, .98, 27, 22 and 44; average 11.4. R. Fredatovich, 321; breaks of 31, 35, 35, 41 and 23; average 7.3. The final of 1,000 up will be played in two sessions of 500 each, to-night and to-morrow night, b€jtwe:en M. D. White and E. S. Morrison, of Pukekohe. Owing to the limited seating accommodation only ticket-holders will be admitted to the final sessions. A charity match is announced for Friday and Saturday nights between E. V. Roberts, New Zealand amateur champion, and A. C. Crosson, the Glasgow professional. The game is to be 1,500 up in two sessions of 750 each.
