NO WATER FOR FIRE

NEW LYNN HOUSE BURNED A five-roomed unoccupied house in Miro Street, New Lynn, owned by Mr. J. Davis, was totally destroyed by fire shortly after 10 p.m. yesterday. A house being- erected by Mr. McKenzie, of New Lynn, on the adjoining section was badly scorched. The alarm was given by Mrs. McKenzie. The Avondale Fire Brigade

was promptly on the scene, but was unable to fight the fire owing to the absence of water. The street has only 2in water mains, and the nearest fireplug is nearly a quarter of a mile away. The house was totally destroyed, the two chimneys alone standing. The house had been unoccupied for the last two months. The owner, Mr. Davis, had been on the premises on Monday getting the house ready for sale. The building had been erected for only a little over a year. The house was valued at over .£7OO. Insurance figures are not available.
