LANGUAGE ON WATERFRONT

ENGAGING LABOUR The reason given at the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday for considering the question of engaging nonunion labour at a point other than that now used was the language used by men. Several meetings have been held and as the Works Committee had recommended that labour outside the present members of the union should be engaged at the southern end of the King’s Wharf low-level landing, where they could not be overheard. Mr. C. G. Macindoe said this recommendation had caused some discussion in shipping and stevedoring circles, and he did not see what good purpose would be served by moving the men. The question was deferred for a month. ____________________
