“NO DESTRUCTION,” SAYS HARBOUR BOARD YESTERDAY’S MEETING With the idea of putting a stop to the wanton destruction of trees on Rangitoto Island, the Domain Boa ’J wrote asking for the co-operation of the Auckland Harbour Boar-1. The chairman. Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, stated at the meeting of the board yesterday, that the board’s engineer had reported that there was no destruction of native flora by the Izard’s staff other than that due to quarrying operations. He moved that a reply be sent stating that the board was taking every care in the question and would continue to do so. Mr. T. B. Clay suggested that the complaint was not against the board's employees, and that if they were asked tc look out for any depredations it would greatly assist the board. The motion was carried and embodied the suggestion. DRILL HALL FOR R.N.R. A request from the Royal Naval Reserve for the lease to the Defence Department of a section on the reclamation east of the power station for the purpose of erecting a drill hall was referred to the Finance Committee for report. It was decided to receive a deputation from the Manukau Cruising Club at the next meeting in reference to the provision of a boat harbour at Onthunga. The yacht-owners of Xorthcote sought permission to erect two cleaning grids in Sulphur Bay for yachts and launches. The board decided to decline to grant the request as the engineer could not recommend it. The medical officer of health wrote asking what the board intended doing to prevent the pollution of the beaches in the Manukau Harbour by the dit - charge of offensive matter. The complaint was referred to the Manukau Harbour Committee. The engineer reported that the steel for the Dev on port Wharf covering would shortly be arriving. He though i it advisable to obtain the views of tins Devonport Borough Council whether it intended to erect a covering over the footpath at the entrance to tins wharf. The report is to be submitted to the council. DOCK CHANGE-ROOMS A request for change-rooms for surveyors of ships at ihe Calliope Dock and slipway was mace by the engineer. He said the cost of providing a chang* room and bathhouse would be in the vicinity of £7 50. The question was referred to tin. Finance Committee. It was decided to grant the Victoria Cruising Club a site at the foot of New Street, Ponsonby for a clubhouse. The recommendation of the engineer that preliminary work in connection with the construction of a breastwork at Mechanics Bay be authorised to t ie amount of £5,000 was approved. A letter of thanks for its expression of sympathy was received from Mrs. R. I\ Bollard, wife of the late Hon. B. F. Bollard, ant; family.
