LION FIGHTS CAR.
“BABY” AUSTIN ATTACKED. STRANGE STORY TOLD. A remarkable episode occurred the other day, concerning which I havo been at some pains to get the truth, writes the Fort Jameson correspondent of the “Rhodesia Herald.” Unfortunately, no actual eye-witness is available to state exactly what happened, but the evidence points to the following:— A Baby Austin, belonging to the representative of a Liverpool firm of tobacco brokers, was “creched” in the vicinity of a planter’s house. During the night a lion came round. (Some people think it was only a hyena, but the evidence in favour of the nobler animal is very strong.) The lion appears to have strongly resented what he. considered an intrusion, and proceeded to the attack. The “infantmobile* proved game and put up a tine fi.lht right up to the departure of its enemy. The lion proved a foul fighter, attacking below the belt, and severely “winding** his opponent by tearing the tyres. Even in this the infant got a bit back by bursting its tyres in the face of its opponent till the “winding” was complete. The next point of attack was directed Against the mudguards and lamps. Here, 'igain, scores were made by both contestants. If the mudguard was broken ft nd the lamp glass shivered, the lion’s mouth was much cut about, and in return for losing its wind, the car bad the satisfaction of knowing that its had lost much blood. The fight was. won by the lion (on Points), as it was able to retire under •ts own power, while the poor “baby” had to go into hospital before being *gsin able to proceed on its way.
