NO TRANSPORT CONTROL BOARD
GOVERNMENT’S REPLY MT. LDEN COUNCIL BUSINESS That the Government had no intention of constituting a Transport Control Board for the Auckland district, and that any such proposal being local in nature should be brought forward in the form of a Bill, was the substance of a letter from the Public Works Department received at the meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. THE town clerk reported that he had A written the under-secretary for the department that the council had not been aware that it was possible lor a local body to introduce legislation amending a Government Bill. It was too late to move in the question bow this session, but the council could hike steps to introduce a local Bill next session for a Transport Control Board, the necessity for which was increasing every day. The council approved of the steps taken. A request from the Auckland Institute and Museum Anthropology and Maori rice section for permission to hold an assembly on Mount Eden on October 8 for the fur pose of showing the Macri method of cooking was referred jo the Mountain Committee with power to act. The beautifying of the streets of the uistt let is progressing rapidly, and .he planting of 65 trees in four streets has now been completed. The Checker Taxi Company was granted permission to conduct a stand in William Street, three cars at one time to occupy the site. The tender of Messrs. Isherwood and Bel lam for the removal of 21 chains ct water-mains in Kingsview Hoad at £248 9s 2d was accepted. This vas the lowest of four tenderers. The vork was estimated by the engineer to cost £285.
Curing August a total of £15,035 vas expended on building in the district There were nine houses costing £".485; four shops, £4,750; 13 sheds, £480; one motor garage, £990; and 20 alterations and additions, £1,330.
