HEALTH AND BUSINESS

“RADIATE GOOD CHEER” FRESH AIR AND VEGETABLES “The man who works and plays with his employees is the man who is going to make a success of his business/’ This advice was given by Mr. Clarke Irvine during his address at the Advertising Club's luncheon to-day on “Health in Business.” t In keeping healthy, he said, the first thing to do was to keep smiling. It did not pay to be too serious. Everyone should radiate health and happiness. As business men they had to realise that their bearings and outlook were the things that went out to the public. He made a hobby of health, and when he was not working he was playing. The body and face were to be likened to a bill board, a poster or an ordinary advertisement. From those could be judged the story of the person himself and the state of his health or pocket. To the man who had the right outlook on life the way was wide open to further success. The thing to do was to teach the other man, and show that he who is possessed of perfect health does not harm his chances of rising clear of all business difficulties. The speaker advocated fresh air and sunshine as the main things tending toward the healthy outlook. The food consumption was inclined to cover meat and grains to a greater extent than necessary. He considered that more fruit and vegetables, fresh air. relaxation and thought were going to make every man and woman healthy. “If you are old and fray, kick up and laugh* it’s the only way to live. If you think you are old you will become old, and if you think you are going to die you will pass away. So live clean, eat healthy things, keep in the air, and you will make a success of life and business,” concluded Mr. Irvine.

The following new members were elected at the Advertising Club's luncheon to-day:—Messrs. B. B. Palmer, W. Thomas, K. Atkinson, A. Ebbett, W. E. Kirby, K. R. Sim and McNeil. Brunner, Mond and Co. have 240 employees who have served 40 years and 768 who have served 35 years. Verhoghensk, in Siberia, has a temperature rising to 90deg. in summer ' and falling to 90deg. below in winter.
