EXPERIENCE V INEXPERIENCE
Several novices engaged at the forthcoming Wellington meeting and adjusted on the end of a 3.45 mile and a-half heat, framed their own handicaps for a similar distance event in which the limit is 3.36. If owners of those who figure as maidens in the tighter class expect to win, what a gift the slower race must be to them earlier in the day. They will find, however, that the Borough Handicap, in which they have away nine seconds to get in, a very difficult proposition, as a few well-seasoned performers are too close up in the field. Dillon’s Pride, on 12 yards behind, won the last Wanganui Cup, while Chimer, who is 24 yards behind, annexed the Wyndham Cup last season. Then there is Epigram on 36. With three such proved performers right on their heels, the novice brigade will have their work cut out to keep from getting tramped on by those behind them.
