PRESENTATION TO RETIRING OFFICER

Officers of the Department of Agriculture held a farewell function in honour of Mr. H. Whyte, who has been connected with the department for many years, and is retiring. Mr. Collins, district superintendent, in presenting Mr. Whyte with a set of pipes, spoke in eulogistic terms of his efficiency and popularity. Mr. Whyte joined the service in 1907 at Auckland as dairy and stock inspector. Then he was transferred to Whangarei as manager and inspector of the local abattoirs, serving a period of six years in that capacity. Later he returned to Auckland and took up duty as inspector in charge at Hellaby’s, the position which he fielld until his retirement.
