Five Candidates for Raglan Seat

AN INDEPENDENT REFORMED CAMPAIGN BEGINS TO-NIGHT THE selection of Mr. Arthur Henry Waring as Reform candidate for ihe Raglan electorate makes five nominations for the seat. The other candidates are Mr. W. L. Martin (Labour), Mr. E. Piggott (Independent), and Mr. T. Parker (Liberal), and Mr. W. J. Taylor (Independent Reform). A Reform conference at Tuakau on Saturday selected Mr. Waring: by ballot from seven aspirants, including: Messrs. S. S. Alim, Watten SeavlJl, Campbell Johnstone, Mervyn Wells, 13. Allen, and G G. R. Tavlor, each cf whom welivered a 10-minute address. An old friend o* the late Hon. R. F. Bollard, Mr. Waring was chairman cf the committee which worked for the Minister at every election in his Parliamentary career. Mr. Waring, who was born in Shropshire 67 years ago, came to New Zealand, and settled in the Waikato in 15183. After becoming a successful farmer at Taupiri, where h* was a fellow-resident with Mr. Rollrrd, he established a butchery bust-* n?ss. Mr. W ir.ng is a. past president °i’ the Raglai: branch of the Political Reform Leagve arid of the Waikato A. and P. Assocl it ion. The conference at Tuakau was pre sided over by Mr. John Massey, of Punl, a son of the late Prime Minister. and 84 delegates were present. THE LIBERAL CANDIDATE Mr. Thoms.* Parker, the Libera, candidate, was b )rn in Castleford Yorkshire, in 1876. He served in th< ftouth African War, and came to Ne\N Zealand in 1906. After managing s irrocery business in Auckland for some years, he went to Ngaruawahia, becoming president of the Chamber ol Commerce anc! of the town board. Ir 1:115 he took up farming at Raglan, and h'is been chairman of the Raglan Towr Board for eight years, and a member °- the county council for four years He is a director of the Raglan Cooperative Daily Company, Ltd.
