TRAMS FOR AVONDALE
PETITION JO COUNCIL increase: in traffic 'A REQUEST for early consid- **“ eration of a proposal to continue the tram service from Mount Albert terminus to Avondale, will be brought before the City Council, possibly at its meeting this week, by a petition from residents , of Avondale. The petitioners base their claim to a tramway on the fact that there are no great difficulties to be faced in the way of construction, and that, apart from the probable heavy local traffic, it is expected that in future there will be very heavy race traffic to the Avondale course, which is being considerably improved, and is expected by good stakes to attract all the best gallopers of the Dominion. The petitioners will point out that their services will be considerably affected by the intention of the City Council to reduce the number of buses to run on the old G.O.C. routes.
