TAURANGA COUNTY
CRUSHING AT TE PUKE The Tauranga County Council at its last meeting decided to purchase a crushing plant for the Te Puke riding. The clerk was instructed to obtain a legal opinion as to the validity of the rating on the new valuation roll supplied by the department, which, at the time the rate was struck, was not summarised, with the result that over £9OO more than anticipated was beingraised from the ratepayers. It was stated that the Assessment Court for making a revaluation would be held on the 16th inst. It was resolved to object to the Tauranga Hospital Board raising a loan of £ 1,500, claiming the right to submit evidence. The engineer was instructed to immediately call for tenders for metalling the unfinished parts of the Kaimai Road. The total cost of finished work on all sections amount to £8,300. The harmony of the meeting was broken by two deputations, opposing factions, respecting the opening of a new road to Te Puna Point. It was apparent that there was .strong feelingover the matter, and a very heated debate went on between members of the deputations and at times they had full possession of the meeting.
