BIG HAUL OF HAPUKA

NEW FISHING GROUND (From Our Own Correspondent.) BLENHEIM, Sunday. A new hapuka fishing ground has been discovered in Cook Strait, about an hour’s run from Tory Channel. A Picton launch secured a catch of 190 splendid fish. Italian fishermen from Wellington were also operating on the ground and it is estimated that fully 2,000 hapuka were caught i.n the one day. The average weight of the fish before dressing is about 221 b., and when dressed ready for market about 171 b. The fishermen received 3d a lb. for it, and on this basis the total value of Wednesday’s catch was about £425.
