THIRD INTERMEDIATE RUGBY FINAL
The third intermediate grade competition was concluded on Saturday, Ponsonby and Otahuhu contesting the final at the Show Grounds. Although the soft ground had already been churned up by two senior teams when the players took the field, each side set a fast pace. Ponsonby was the first to score, C. Cammick crossing near the posts, to convert his own try. Half-time scores: Ponsonby 5 Otahuhu 0 Heavy rain after half-time made passing impossible, but the small number of spectators were rewarded with some fine dribbling efforts, Piper and Clark being prominent for Ots.huhu. while Cammick and Martin led the Ponies. In the final quarter, Martin increased Ponsonby’ss lead by scoring well out. The kick failed, and the final whistle blew shortly afterwards with the score: Ponsonby 8 Otahuhu . . . 0 Johnson continually saved Ponsonby, while White’s trusty boot got Otahuhu out of some tight corners. Ellery also played well for Otahuhu.
