LITHUANIAN REVOLT
PROMPT SUPPRESSION TROOPS RUSHED TO SCENE By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 11.30 a.m. RIGA, Sunday. A Lithuanian revolt was organised by the Leftists, with the object of overthrowing the Government. The town of Taurocggea, between Riga and Tilsit, as well as other small towns and villages, were for 14 hours in the hands of rebels, who disarmed the police, occupied the barracks stations, and summoned other towns to join them. The Government proclaimed a state of war, rushed t'oops from Kovno and Memel, and instituted a Press censorship. Prompt action resulted ir the revolt being suppressed. It is reported that many were killed or wounded. The leader, Mai jus, who was recently ex]>elled from the army, and other prominent insurgents, escaped.—A. anc. N.Z.
