CUP CANDIDATES

NOT VERY BUSY ALL IN GOOD FETTLE <Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. HPHERE is not very much doing among the Cup horses at present, but all of them are in good health, and in fine fettle to commence serious business. Several will be seen in action at Wellington in the Cup Trial. Locanda Mac is wearing bandages in front. He is in beautiful order to undergo a Cup preparation, but there is a lot of work in front of his trainer to get him right at his best. Cardinal Logan is bursting into bloom both in appearance and with early speculations. Talaro has a lot of friends and many enemies. Peter Bingen is enjoying favourable mention on the tracks, but his stablemate, Logan Chief, is never spoken of. Already many Nelson sportsmen claim Imprint as the winner. That is only to be expected. Sea Pearl and Escapade are pictures of health and full of step. Sea Pearl will go to Wellington to try and win the New Zealand Cup Trial Handicap. She is a great mare. A STRONG HAND Bryce’s quartette are all in the pink. Acron is pleasing him, and everybody is waiting to see how he shapes at Petone. If he goes as well as Bryce says he will, then it will be just a question of waiting at the back of the totalisator.

Kohara is one of the staple’s big tips for the Cup, and Great Hope is

considered to have a chance. Since the appearance of the handicaps there has been a slump in Ahuriri’s stock. If Bryce sends the four to the post it will mean that they will be coupled with Great Bingen, he being in the same ownership as Acron. Hence speculators will have five horses working for them. HAS A HOST OF FRIENDS Jack Potts is a firm fancy, and if the American survives a nice preparation he will let them know that he comes from XJ.S.A.

Of the front-markers, Audacious the most tlaked about. He is a soli

customer and it is known that he can. go fast enough to make it very difficult for the back-markers to catch him. WORTH KEEPING IN MIND It is yet too early to go off the deep end about any candidate, but meanwhile Talaro, Jack Potts and Audacious are worth consideration. TROTTING FIXTURES September 17.—Wellington T.C. October 15.—Inangahua T.C. October 15-19.—Auckland T.C. October 22-24.—Greymouth T.C. November 8-10-11.—N.Z. Metropolitan T.C.
