BROADWOOD JOHN BROADWOOD. 1732 J* 12. Piano of the Nation and the Choice of Kings The unique characteristics of the Broadwood models, and their world-wide reputation is the result not only of their achievements in pianoforte construction in the last two centuries. It has been still further enhanced in recent years by a whole-hearted response to the many urgent demands which have been made to evolve an instrument capable of giving a more complete interpretation and expression to the art of pianoforte playing. When the Broadwood piano is heard, it is realised that however superb an example of the cabinetmaker’s art, the real soul of the piano is the beauty of its tone. Moreover, combined with this unequalled beauty of tone is a responsiveness of touch that justifies the name perfection. It is not too much to say that “pianoforte” finds its true synonym in “Broadwood.” You must see and hear the new Broadwoods to appreciate the perfection the House of Broadwood has achieved in the creating of fine Pianos. Beautiful Upright and Grand Models—enjoy a private recital in the E. & F. Music Rooms. The fortunes of the House of Broadwood were founded when John Broadwood, the Scot, came to London in 1761 to work for Burkhardt Tschudi (Anglicised Burkat Shudi), the Swis3 harpsichord maker. Shudi came to London in 1718, and worked for Tabel the Fleming, who had been associated with the successors of the famous Dutch harpsichord makers, the Ruckers of Antwerp (1579-1667). A Ruckers harpsichord ranked as a Cremona Violin by Stradivari. A few still survive in playable order. This was the fine tradition that Shudi brought to his own business in 1728. He was successful, and moved to Great Pulteney Street in 1742, where Broadwood carried on the business till 1904, when they moved to Conduit Street, and in the early part of 1924 to their spacious Galleries in the heart of London’s fashionable centre 158 Xcw Bond Street. There is a model Broadwood to suit you in every way, including price. Call now and make your selection. PIANO AGENCY L r » 191 Queen S< (Near Victoria SUAUCiCLAKD W; J. Caddell, Auckland Manager T.
