PRINCE EDWARD

“VALENCIA” Remodelling an old sailing vessel into a replica of a Spanish frigate was one of the astonishing technical tasks accomplished in the production of Mae Murray’s new starring vehicle, “Valencia,” now playing at the Prince Edward Theatre. Technicians built an entire new superstructure on the ship, mounted cannon, and transformed it into a practical working model of a frigate in which man-o’-warsmen sailed the Pacific for the spectacular new picture. Tho new picture is one of the most spectacular romances of the season. A vivid romance of Spain, directed by Dimitri Buchowetzki, the noted Russian director, it features Miss Murray in the role of a madcap Spanish cabaret girl who becomes the cause of conflict between the governor of Barcelona and her lover, a sailor on a Spanish warship. Great Spanish castles, the entire length of an old Barcelona street, and remarkable views of the Palace Gardens of Barcelona are among the spectacular details of the production, in which hundreds of people, in spectacular and colourful Spanish costumes, appear.

Lloyd Hughes plays the leading male role as the sailor, and Roy D’Arcy, of “Merry Widow” fame, the villainous governor.
