TE AWAMUTU BRANCH The committee appointed to discuss ways and means of raising money in order to provide the necessary improvements at Albert Park, Te Awarnutu, met on Thursday. There were present: Messrs. F. Quin (chairman), J. G. Wynyard, J. Oliphant, G. B Melrose, C. A. Finch, A. A. Chittenden, A A. Reese, S. Smith, and D. Bockett. A deputation was present from the Plunket Society. Mrs. H. A. Swarbrick, secretary, explained that the society had decided some time ago to held a carnival during the coming summer to provide necessary funds. They had intended to hold the carnival in the first week in November, the date fixed for the Albert Park effort. It was pointed out that a combination of the two bodies could hold a joint carnival, aiming at £7OO. Mr. Oliphant was in favour of holding two carnivals, the Plunket effort being given preference. Mr. Swarbrick then dealt with the financial resources and commitments, of the society, and stated that the Government subsidy covered slightly over one-third of the minimum expenditure necessary to keep the branch going, leaving the balance, practically two-thirds, to be raised locally. Estimated expenditure for the present year, estimated on the balance sheet for 192 6-27. totalled £4OO 18s 3d. Receipts would total £212.
