A STOUT-HEARTED CRICKETER
Major the Hon. L. H. Tennyson, captain of the Hampshire eleven, who has done immeasurable work for the extension of the popularity of cricket in every corner of the globe, and is a great favourite wherever the game is known, had a meteoric rise to batting fame. When at Eton and Cambridge he was regarded as a fast bowler, and runs were not expected from him. It was after he left the University in 1913 that he suddenly developed unsuspected hitting powers, and contemporaneously his defence improved almost beyond recognition. What he has been to Hampshire cannot be stated in words. He has an ideal temperament for a captain, and he is able to inspire the men under his command to give of their best.
