FANCY DRESS BALL AT MANUREWA

The event of the season, insofar as the children of Manurewa are interested, was held in the Manurewa Theatre last evening in the form of a children’s fancy dress ball. The young people congregated in costumes of all sizes, shapes, and colourings, which presented a sight which was delightful to both young and old. Much praise for the success of the function is due to Mrs. R. Forbes, of Manurewa, for her untiring efforts in having trained the young folk to such a high degree. The music was supplied by Mesdames Warlich and Yeoland. Mr. J. S. Wilcox carried out the duties of M.C. The decorations were on a lavish scale, and unique in design, multicoloured streamers twining from the centre of the ceiling to all parts of the hall, and the walls were heavily decked with greenery. On the stage, among a mass of greenery and bright (lowers, were interspersed quaint Japanese lanterns. In a few well-chosen remarks the Rev. Bobbing welcomed both young and old to the function, thanking them for their presence in helping to make the evening the huge success that it was. At the conclusion of their dance the young people were entertained at supper, which was one of the main items in the evening’s enjoyment, so far as they were concerned. The adults then took the floor, and danced till the early hours to the strains of Gibbs’s orchestra.
