deRSONAL. —Captain W. A. Gray has reueved Captain C. J. Hackworth of the Kaimai, the latter going on holidays. Air w. Johnson has rejoined the K-t----tawa as chief officer, relieving Mr. F. D. Johnson, who has transferred to the Kairanga as chief officer. Mr. \\. J. riee■man, of the latter vessel, is proceeding to Auckland on leave. - tv , Mr. J. H. Ibbotson, second officer ot tne Kittawa, has come ashore for orders. Captain S. Hewitt, of the Kauri, has taken command of the Kaiwarra temporarily relieving Captain H. & Whyboin, who is at present in Wellington on leave. Mr. H. J. Kemp, third officer of the Kaimai, has signed off that vessel, and is awaiting instructions.
TOFUA SAILS SATURDAY. —At 11 a.m. on Saturday the Union Company is dispatching the Island passenger steamer from Auckland with passengers, mails and cargo for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. KAITANGAT A AT NAPIER.—Due at Napier to-day from Newcastle, the Union Company’s collier Kaitangata later proceeds to Gisborne and Auckland to complete her discharge of cargo. KARTIGI FOR ADELAIDE.—The Union Company advises that the cargo steamer Kartigi, now completing her discharge at Portland, returns to Auckland about Tuesday next to load for ‘Wellington, Lyttelton and Adelaide. NIAGARA FROM VANCOUVER. —Due at Auckland next Monday morning from Vancouver, via ports, the Union Company is endeavouring to dispatch the Niagara the same evening at 10 o’clock for Sydney. SYDNEY STEAMERS.—The Ulimaroa leaves Auckland at 11 a.m. to-morrow for Sydney. The Marama clears Sydney at 3 p.m. to-morrow for Auckland. The Maheno, due at Sydney to-morrow from Auckland, sails at 10 a.m. on Saturday for Wellington. TURAKINA LEAVES LIVERPOOL.— The New Zealand Shipping Company has been notified by cablegram that the Turakina sailed from Liverpool on Saturday with general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on October 11. KAITUNA TO LOAD.—Advice has been received by the Union Company that the Kaituna. which has been lying in the stream at Wellington for some weeks past, is to recommission to-dav. The vessel is expected to leave to-day for Greymouth, for bunkers, and will sail thence for Hobart. to load timber for South Island ports..
THE POOLTA.—The Union Company reports that the Pooita, from Brisbane, is due at Clarence River to-day to load timber for New Plymouth, Wellington and Greymouth. She is to complete loading at Port Stephens and Newcastle. MIDDLESEX REPORTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by wireless from the Middlesex, en route from London, that she will arrive at Wellington at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning. The vessel, which is bringing cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland, is due here about September 19. RIBERA LEAVES NEWPORT.—CabIed advice has been, received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Ribera left Newport News last Thursday for New Zealand and Australian ports, en route from Montreal. She is due at Auckland about October 6. PORT PIRIE ARRIVES HOME.—A cable message to the C. and D. Line reports that the Port Pirie arrived at Southampton on Saturday morning from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on July 21. The message adds that both the Port Pirie and Port Hardy arrived Home in time for their wool cargo to catch the London September wool sales. OCEAN TRANSPORT SAlLS.—Having completed the discharge of the local portion of her cargo, the Empire Transport Company’s; steamer, Ocean Transport, sailed this morning for New Plymouth and Newcastle to complete. She was to have lett last night, but trouble with the crew delayed li€a* final sailing until this morrj-,-££EI£ O,AN CHALLENGER DISCHARGING.—The Canadian Challenger is discharging at Queen’s Wharf. H.M.S. DUNEDIN RETURNING.—Th« flagship of the New Zealand division o the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Dunedin, is ex. pected to return to port at 4 o’clock thi: afternoon after a fortnight in the Haurak Gulf. The warship was to carry ou anti-aircraft shooting with heavy gun: from 1.30 p.m. until 3 p.m. to-day. TREWORLAS FROM MEW YORK.No advice bad been received of the de parture from Fiji of the Treworlas ii continuation of her voyage from Nev York. The vessel is bringing case oil ant general merchandise for discharge ai Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dun edin. Sh e is running under the auspice; of the A. and A. Line, and the New Zea land Shipping Company are the loca agents. WELLINGTON-PICTON SERVICE.— The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the ferry steamei Tamahine will replace the Ngaio and reenter this service, sailing from Wellington on October 3. The Tamahine wil maintain the following timetable unli further notice:—Leave Wellington or Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at l p.m., and P.icton on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30 p.m. ORIENT LINE STEAMERS.—The Union Company, agents for the Oriem Line, advise the following movements oi steamers:—
The Os ter ley, from Sydney, is due at Colombo to-day, at Plymouth on September 28, and at London on September 29. The Orsova, from London, is due at Colombo on September 10, at Melbourne on September 26, and at Sydney on September 29. RIMUTAKA FOR HOME.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Rimutaka left Wellington at daybreak this morning for Southampton and London, via the Panama route. She took the following passengers:—First saloon, from "Wellington, Messrs. B. H. Cathrick, J. P. Castley. From Auckland: Mr. R. W. Goodsell, Mrs. M. Hurle, Mr. B. L. Morton, Mrs. J. A. I). Morton, Mrs. A. M. Rossiter, Miss S. M. Rossiter, Miss P. Rossiter, Mrs. C. F. Walker. There were also 36 third class passengers.

LAMB STEAMER OMANA.—With coal from Newcastle, timber from Port Stephens and general cargo from Sydney, the Lamb steamer Omana arrived at Auckland early this morning and berthed later at King s Wharf to discharge the local porit.trn of her cargo. The vessel left Newcastle on August 27 for Port Stephens, and cleared there at 6 a.m. last Friday, Fine weather was experienced all the way across, the Omana sighting the Maheno and Margaret W en route.
Captain J. Benton is in command of the Omani;, and the following are his officers:—Chief, Mr. W. D. Archibald; second, Mr. H. McDougall; third, Mr. J. J. Price; chief engineer, Mr. J. Annand; second, Mr. C. Adams; third, Mr. A. H. Booker; fourth, Mr. J. Trippner; chief steward, Mr. G. Nicholas; wireless operator, Mr. Ij Delreul.
The local agents, the Northern Steamship Company, advise that they hope to dispatch the Omana on Saturday for Tauranga and Lyttelton to complete discharge.
AUSTVARD WITH PHOSPHATES. The Norwegian motor-ship Austvard arrived in the stream at Wellington on Monday night from Sofaga, Red Sea, to discharge portion of her 1,600 tons of phosphate. The port of Sofaga is a small place 330 miles southward ot ouez. Ihe phosphate mines, however, are about ten miles distant from Sofaga. The rough rock is conveyed by large overhead trollies to the crushing machinery at Sofaga. There are only five Englishmen at the works, the only other inhabitants being about 300 Arabs. The Austvard experienced moderate weather throughout the voyage, which was uneventful. Captain Hansen is master of the vessel, and his officers are:—Chief. Mr. Terganson; second, Mr. Bang; third, Mr. Brune; chief engineer, Mr. Hide; second, Mr. Tune; third, Mr. Tarldsen. The vessel is owned by the Kloster Rederf Company, of Norway. She is a twin-screw motor-ship built in 1925 by Burmeister and Wain. This is her first trip to New Zealand. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company are the agents.
TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO STEAMERS. —The Waitemata left Sydney at 10.30 a.m. yesterday for Fiji, Vancouver, and San Francisco. She is due at Suva on September 13
The Waikawa. from Lyttelton, was due at Suva on Monday last, and is expected to leave again on September 11 for Vancouver and San Francisco.
The Wailiemo, from Westport, arrived at Vancouver at noon on Sunday last, and will load at Powell River, Union Bay, and Ocean Falls,, clearing the latter port about September 3.0 for San Francisco direct. She is expected to leave San Francisco about September IS for Apia. Bluff, Dunedin. Lyttelton, Xapier and New Plymouth. The Wairunaa left Wellington yesterday for Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Melbourne on September 13. The Hauraki. which arrived at Vancouver on August 31, is expected to clear Ocean Falls on September 14 for San Francisco direct, clearing the latter port about September 23 for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The Waiotapu was to have left Ocean Falls on Saturday for San Francisco direct. She is expected to leave San Francisco about September 10 for Melbourne and Sydney..
