MARSDEN LICENSING
SATISFACTORY REPORTS The quarterly meeting; o£ the Marsden Licensing? Committee was held in the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court yesterday, those on the Bench being Messrs. J. E. Holmes, N. Finlay son, C. R. Lovatt and A. H. Curtis. In the absence of the magistrate, Mr. Holmes was appointed chairman. James Payne was granted a renewal of the licence for the Wairua Hotel, all t?Te police and Health Department requirements having be€.*n carried out. The police stated that all the other hotels had been well conducted and there were no complaints. In the case of the Parua Bay Hotel, which had been adjourned to this court on account of the dilapidation of the building. Inspector Hollis suggested a further three months’ grace in which to bring matters to finality. There was no fault to find with the way in which the business was conducted. Mr. Carruth, for the owner, said he was completing a financial arrangement which should prove satisfactory. Mr. Steadman, for the licensee (Mr E. Davan) said this was most unsatisfactory to lis client. Something absolutely definite had been promised for this meeting, and his client was again put off. The insurance on his furniture and effects had been cancelled on account of the state of the building, which was very poor business. His client could make other and better arrangements, and he for one would not stand this nonsense much longer. The extension of time was granted. The chairman expressed his pleasure at the police report on the conduct of the houses, which, he said, was entirely satisfactory.
