DEFICIT OF £47,540

The annual report of the Railway Commissioners, tabled in the Assembly, shows that the operations for the year :nded June 30 last resulted in a deficit :»f £47,540. The commissioners attribute the deicitto the refusal of the Allan-Peacock Ministry to approve tlie recommendation to increase fares and freights. This deficit does not include an alowaiice for making good accrued or iccruing loss of the value of property ■xtensions of suburban lines, and reluction of freights on certain classified roods, which would have made the total leficit for the year £596,000.—A. and
