RADIO TELEPHONY

ENGLISH AMATEUR HEARD REMARKABLE CLARITY (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Speaking from his home in Caterham, Kent, the voice of Mr. Gerald Marcuse, the English radio amateur, of station 2NM, was heard with wonderful clarity at Christchurch last evening. The reception of the speech was perfect and a musical programme was enjoyed for over an hour. The transmission was picked up at 5.30 p.m., arid was held until the station closed down at 6.35 p.m. This reception is unique, as it is believed to be the first occasion on which English amateur telephony has been heard at such strength in New Zealand. The transmission was on 32.5 metres and tuning was very critical.
