BASKETBALL GIRLS ENTERTAINED
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Mrs. J. G. Coates gave an extremely pleasant morning tea for girls of the visiting basket-ball teams on Friday, before the departure of the “main body” of these cheery visitors. The party was held at Mrs. Coates’s residence in Tinakori Road. The drawing room was filled with dainty, fragrant spring flowers, and the tea was set in the dining-room, the table being centred with a big bowl of large scarlet camellias. Tea, with delicious savoury sandwiches and cakes, was much enjoyed, and a hum of cheerful conversation over past glories and defeats went on briskly. Mrs. Coates received her guests in a pretty gown of beige crepe de chine, with broderie Anglaise in a deeper shade. Her two elder daughters assisted her, wearing black velvet frocks. Also assisting were Lady Rhodes, Mrs. R. A. Wright, and Mrs. Hawken. It was mentioned that it was intended to give the girls of the winning teams each a brooch with a silver fern-leaf and basket-ball as a design. As this is to be retrospective to last year, the Auckland girls will come off well, as they have been the winners each season, and are to be heartily congratulated, as the victories were not easily won. Among those present were Mrs. R. S. Mclnnes (president of the Dominion Association), Mrs. H. D. Muir (vicepresident, and manager for Christchurch), Mrs. Gardiner president, Wellington), Mrs. Montgomery (president, Auckland), team managers Miss R. Mackenzie (Otago), Mrs. Nesbit (Hawke’s Bay), Miss Pey (Southland), Miss Parkin (Ashburton), .Miss Tui Johnson (Auckland), and Miss Greta Stark (Wellington).
