NEW ZEALAND MAILS

IRREGULAR ARRIVAL COMPLAINT FROM LONDON Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. An English correspondent has complained of the irregular arrival of New Zealand mails in London, alleging that sometimes there is a gap of three weeks between them. Australian mail, it is said, arrives regularly every week. The Postal Department here says that New Zealand mails are regularly despatched via San Francisco and Vancouver, but depend on transcontinental trains, which are liable to be held up by snow, and on Atlantic steamers, which run to an irregular time-table. According to tables given the time of transit varies from 28 to 34 days, the San Francisco route being the quickest. _________________
