MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
PROGRESS OF WORKS The Manurewa Town Board at its last meeting received a letter from Mr. J. P. Kennelly stating that it is useless to put down a permanent crossing to his property till the board relieved him from the storm-water overflowing from Massey Road. The question was left with the Works Committee. The traffic inspector recommended the installation of silent policemen at the junction of Station and Great South Road, and also in Hill Road. The Railway Department stated it was willing to erect a culvert on Jellicoe Road, replacing the two-foot pipes with three, upon the board donating £25 toward the cost, and it was unanimousely decided to make the grant. Messrs. Fawcett and Sexton were appointed to represent Manurewa in a conference with the Auckland Automobile Club re beautifying Great South Road. The Railway Department granted the use of a reserve for dumping metal at the rate of £ 5 per annum for a term of seven years, and it was agreed to accept the offer. The amount payable to Mr. Biernacki as awarded by the court for the purchase of the cemetery property totalled £899 9s, and incidental expenses amounted to £7B. Mr. McFarland submitted a detailed report regarding Great South Road loan showing a balance in hand of approximately £BSO. Mr. G. A. Osborne urged the necessity of levelling a larger playing area in Jellicoe Park, and it was decided to procure estimates of the cost of the work. It was left with Mr. Osborne to make arrangements for proceeding with the work of planting trees in Massey Road.
