QUAKE AT DARWIN. —A telegram received at Sydney from Port Darwin says a sharp earthquake shock was experienced there early yesterday morning. The town was shaken but no damage was done. —A. and N.Z. POPPY DAY’ AT HOME. —Earl Haig states that the record sum of £435,000 was collected by the sale of poppies on Poppy Day last year. Since the day was instituted in 1922, £1,749.000 has been raised on behalf of ex-service-men’s charities. —British Official Wireless.. NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTION. —The New South Wales Executive Council j'esterday decided that the j writs for the general election shall he issued on Saturday and that polling ! day shall be October 8. AX OLD VINTAGE. —Eight thousand bottles of Tokay 200 years old. from a royal cellar founded in Austria in 1673, have been brought to England. They will be sold privately.
