NORANA FOR AUCKLAND
The purchase of Norana from Mr. C. W. Sandstrum, of Dunedin, by Messrs. T. M. McLaughlin and A. Brett, lias occasioned considerable interest in Auckland boating circles. The 40-foot addition to the Waitemata fleet (a picture of which appeared in- yesterday’s issue of THE SUN) has a dummy funnel concealing her whistle tank, giving her the appearance of a miniature steam yacht. , Another distinctive feature is the exceptionally large cock-pit which provides accommodation for a sufficient number of people to make her an ideal day cruiser. The launch’s lack of sleeping accommodation —only two bunks, forward of the engine-room—-limits her use for extended cruising. Her 27 h.p. Frisco Standard engine is controlled by means of an engineroom telegraph from the cockpit, and her benzine and water tanks are concealed under the seats. The launch is very substantially built. All her combings and other wooden fittings are of teak, and all exposed metal parts of brass. Built by Miller Bros., of Port Chalmers, to the design of “Jos.” Gillanders, Norana is a modification of Dream, the launch which raced from New York to Bermuda seme years ago.
