MR. A. THOMPSON, President Ponsonby Cruising Club. Back in 1900, when the Ponsonby Cruising Club was founded, Alfred Thompson, who from a youth was a keen advocate of organised pleasure yachting, was with the late Arthur Hewson. one of the prime movers in the establishment of the new club.

Twenty - seven years have gone,: and Alfred Thompson in his capacity as president is as enthusiastic a member as he was on the day the inaugural meeting was called. Mr. Thompson was the first secretary of Pons sonby Club, and 1 has held success-

ively the offices of treasurer, commodore, trustee and president. In recognition of his services, the club has made him a life member. He first experienced the fascination of yachting when, as a boy of 10, he was taken for an occasional trip in the Jessie Logan, one of the finest yachts of her day. It was not long before he joined the crew of the yacht, lolanthe. That was in 1595. Subsequently he sailed in the keeler Belle, and afterwards owned the Magic. In 1905 Mr. Thompson was chairman of the Ponsonby Regatta Committee, and the following year was appointed judge for the Auckland Regatta.
