STAGE-FRIGHT
“Carry on! Carry on!” exclaimed a competitor at the Wanganui competitions as he warmed to the subject of his elocutionary effort. But he could not “Carry on,” for he had forgotten his lines. He signalled dumbly to the judge for a “prompt,” and above the general murmur of the audience he caught the line /‘Things never were looming so black.” He repeated it nobly, but again there was a blank. The audience could restrain themselves no longer, said the ‘‘Wanganui Chronicle,” and amidst roars of laughter he bowed and made a hurried exit.
